What is Altrusa?
Founded in Nashville, Tennesee on April 11, 1917, Altrusa evolved into the first service organization for women. The name Altrusa was derived from ALTR for "altruism" (the unselfish regard for the welfare of others) and USA for the United States of America.
Altrusa is now an international organization of business and professional leaders who volunteer their energies and expertise in projects dedicated to community betterment. Currently, over 420 clubs, more than 10,000 individuals in 19 countries constitute the international organization.
Local clubs are grouped geographically into 14 districts worldwide which comprise the international structure. Saginaw, MI is located in District Five which is composed of clubs in lower Michigan, Ohio and southeastern Ontario, Canada.
Altrusa in Saginaw was organized October 20, 1960 and was chartered May 26, 1966.The membership is comprised of individuals representing diverse professional and business activities. Altrusa provides members with opportunities for
